Meet Kay Knapp

Meet Mrs. Knapp

How long have you been a teacher?

My first teaching job was at Palmer Public Schools in the business department (and coaching volleyball and basketball) in 1986. Many years later, I am still teaching students keyboarding and computer skills. I enjoy teaching, as every day is a little bit different and rewarding!

When did you start teaching at St. Mary’s School?

I have been very fortunate to teach part-time at St. Mary’s for 20+ years! For part of those years, I also taught PE, but have always taught computers and keyboarding to all grades.

What are some unique qualities or skills you possess?

I enjoy working with people (and students!) When I went to school, there were no computers in the building–yes, I am THAT OLD! 🙂 When I went to college, students were just learning about computers. Through a lot of workshops and continuing education, I have learned a lot about software & computers, but I know there is still a lot to learn! Luckily, I feel being a life-long learner is very important and something I plan to keep on doing once I retire from teaching! I hope to instill the importance of being a life-long learner and problem solver in my students, too.

What is your favorite Bible verse or prayer?

My favorite Bible verse is Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

What do you love about St. Mary’s School?

I love that we can bring God & prayer into the classroom! Whenever we hear the sirens blowing in Ord, the students and staff pray for the people who need help. Some of my assignments include religious themes. I also appreciate we can use the truths from the Bible in our school and classroom disciplinary guidelines.

Where can we find you?

In the computer lab, or helping one of the teachers or students with their computers.
